It can be VERY difficult to find the time to work out. I know this because I have two little boys that keep me on my toes. I’ve had my fair share of full time and multiple jobs that have made it challenging to get to the gym. Here are 7 ways to get in a workout when you are a busy person.

You can grab my FREE Beginner Strength Training Program for Women right here! I’ve designed this program to be simple so that you don’t feel overwhelmed. I have YouTube tutorials for every single movement and a printable PDF for you to edit and fill in as you go!

1. Get your sleep and nutrition on track first!

Nutrition is #1 so make time to cook healthy food before you exercise because it makes the most difference in your life! Check out my post on filling your diet with protein sources on a budget!

Cooking at home is VERY important. If you aren’t able to plan, prep, and make home-cooked meals consider a meal prep service such as Blue Apron! You’ll have more variety and more time with your family around the dinner table!

If you aren’t sleeping because you have to work long hours or have a baby that doesn’t sleep much at night, focus on getting plenty of sleep and take the time to nap instead of doing a workout. When you are sleep deprived, exercise could make things worse.

If you aren’t getting enough sleep because you are staying up late watching Netflix or Hulu, go to bed earlier! I’m yelling at myself right now!

2. Find Fun Activities

Don’t underestimate how much exercise you get when taking walks, playing outside with your kids, or playing on an adult sports league!

I have many friends that use tennis for exercise or walk consistently with friends. If you enjoy it and it gets you moving consistently it’s the best way for you to be healthy and can help with weight loss if that’s your goal.

Use google to find adult sports leagues in your town!

3. Get a running stroller

Here’s the stroller I use -AND it’s budget-friendly, the Baby Trend. I have an entire post devoted to telling you my top 3 jogging stroller picks!

Here’s two other higher end options that I’ve read great things about and would’ve bought if money wasn’t tight! The Baby Jogger or the BOB (both of these come in single or double).

My kids LOVE riding in the stroller while I run or walk.

4. Do home workouts

Find bodyweight workouts on Youtube or through a company like Beach Body (I’m not affiliated with them).

Did you know that Amazon Prime Video has workout videos?! They have HIIT, Yoga, and a ton more!

Grab a few pieces of workout equipment! I suggest you check out these Kettlebells, dumbbells, and bands, and other bands. They are great options to get you started and give you lots of options at home so that you don’t get bored!

Pick a weight that is a little bit challenging so you can grow into it. Weights aren’t cheap so don’t go super light or you will have to buy new ones soon!

Amazon is usually a lot cheaper than Target or Dicks. Used options are great as well!

Check Facebook Marketplace and other “buy, sell, and trade apps”, or see if you have a Play It Again Sports in your area for used and consignment equipment!

I started doing home workouts when I first started lifting weights and I LOVED kettlebell workouts! I bought a mat and would go to the basement at 6 am to workout at my parents’ house when I moved home after college (Yep, my parents loved that! Ha! My dad LOVED hearing the Ninja Blender after my early morning workouts!)

I have ALL of my favorite fitness resources in one place on my resource page! Check it out for some great items that I’ve used for years!

5. If you have kids, find a gym with reliable childcare that you trust

Make sure you trust the childcare! There should be cameras, lots of windows, background checks, etc in place. If you ever feel uncomfortable, you should voice your concerns and take action. However, if you can find a place you trust this is a great option for parents who need it!

6. Find a Crossfit gym

Find one close to home or work and go before or after work or on lunch break. Some Crossfit gyms have childcare! If they don’t, it is possible to work out with your kids with you if you are super determined and have a pack and play and lots of snacks, toys, and fans.

7. Get up early

When I worked as a bank teller I would workout before work every day and it was great! Once you make this a habit it really is a great way to start the day!

It’s great to get your workout in immediately and not skip because you are tired later in the day. Just ask anyone who has made this a habit, they will rave about how wonderful it is and how hard it was at first.
