Is the full-time blogger life too good to be true?
If you’ve been following my story you know that I’m on track to find out!
I started my blog 2 months ago and did tons of research through free resources. I was convinced I could do this on my own and get away with spending minimal money (as in only paying for site hosting through Siteground). At first, I just wasn’t ready to take a chance on myself by putting money into this endeavor. It’s ironic because deep down I know how determined I am to make money as a blogger and I know I CAN do it. I know I have the drive. I just need someone to tell me what to do and I’ll do it!
If you haven’t heard my story, I’m Jackie and I’ve worked in gyms as a personal and group trainer since 2012. I love the world of fitness, but in 2016 I became a mom and it made me really reconsider my career goals.
Working mom? Stay at Home Mom? Both?
I always knew I wanted to be a mom and I knew I’d probably stay home with my babies but I decided to try and work part-time. Two problems became apparent very quickly -paying for babysitting takes the majority of my earnings at my job, and scheduling clients is really complicated when you have little babies to care for as well.
You see, most people need to train early in the morning or in the evenings and weekends. As a wife and mom, this is less than ideal. It’s become more and more apparent to me that if I’m going to bring in some income to help our family, it needs to be from home.
You see, I also have a good bit of free time during naps where I usually waste time binging on Netflix. This led me to take the plunge and invest in starting a fitness and lifestyle blog.
Choosing to Blog
I’ve had my own free blogs throughout the years. I’ve always enjoyed blogging. I LOVE the creative side of blogging! Designing images and crafting blog posts is my favorite! I knew I wanted to get into it more but I never wanted to invest in self-hosting and I never took it seriously until recently.
Trying to figure it all out
There is WAY more to blogging and Making Money Blogging than I EVER could have imagined!
I can’t say it would have deterred me from starting, but I had no idea how much goes into starting and monetizing a blog. Once I paid for hosting and bought my domain name it was like I opened a whole can of worms!
At first, I embraced the challenge, googling blog posts and ebooks to help me figure everything out. I chose a free theme to save money as well.
But after a month and a half, I realized… I’m wasting a lot of valuable time piecing together tidbits of information and I’m not any closer to making money off of this endeavor.
Deep down I knew, if I plan on making money, I am going to HAVE to invest in myself and my blog. If I believe in myself then I won’t hold back.
Choosing a Course
Once I made the decision to invest in a course I had to CHOOSE a course. Oh boy, there are plenty to choose from!
When I listened to Alex and Lauren’s story, the creators of Create and Go, it hit home. Alex was previously a personal trainer and they decided to start a health and fitness blog. He explained in one of his videos, he was burnt out of training early mornings, late evenings, and weekends. Yes, he understood me!
What really solidified my decision was hearing how Alex and Lauren first found success with their health and wellness blog and THEN created a blog about starting a blog. This is very different from many who blog about blogging and make money blogging talking about making money blogging.
I knew I wanted to blog about fitness and lifestyle topics and not just about blogging. I wanted to get help from someone who had done this too. Alex and Lauren offer several different courses so I had to choose which one to purchase.
I wanted to dive straight in and purchase their Make Money Blogging for Beginners course but I decided to not skip the foundational course, Launch your Blog. I am REALLY glad I started from the beginning!!
What did I Learn from “Launch Your Blog”?
As soon as I started the course I redesigned my blog completely. I purchased the Avada Theme and ditched my free theme. I knew I didn’t want to waste a ton of time frustrated with a free theme only to redesign with a paid theme a few months from now. My site looks 100% more professional and is WAY easier to edit.
To be honest, some of the information they taught I had figured out on my own. I already knew how to use Canva for design and I was using Unsplash for stock photography. I had figured out quite a bit about how to use WordPress and plugins and had installed some already that they suggested. My social sites were already set up.
The problem is it took me a month to figure this stuff out before taking their course and if I would have purchased “Launch Your Blog” at the start, I could have done all of it in two weeks at the pace I was working.
Without this course, my site would look less than professional and my photos wouldn’t be optimized so my site would be much slower.
I wouldn’t have a clue how to get started with an e-mail list and I wouldn’t know anything about the legal side of blogging.
My site would be much more complicated and the layout would keep readers from finding what they need.
My headlines would be lacking, and I would be creating the wrong kinds of pins for Pinterest.
I would be wasting so much time on too many social media sites, like Instagram and Twitter instead of focusing on just TWO that I enjoy and want to drive traffic from.
Finally, the back end of my site would be a mess.
One thing I wish they would have more information on is the actual, ideal set up of a blog post. I would love to learn more about how to write, structure, and create amazing blog posts in more detail.
If you want to start a blog, this is the course for you. Don’t do what I did and waste your time trying to figure stuff out on your own. The course pays for itself in the time you will save! Get it HERE NOW!
I am purchasing their Make Money Blogging for Beginners Course next! I’ll keep you updated as I move through that course!
Leave a comment if you have taken their courses or if you have a course you love!
